Cortical circuit dysfunction and cognitive deficits in schizophrenia--implications for preemptive interventions.

摘要: Schizophrenia is a devastating disorder that common, usually chronic, frequently associated with substantial co-morbidity for addictive and medical disorders and, as consequence, very costly in both personal economic terms. At present, no proven means preventing or modifying the course of illness exist. This review discusses evidence supporting ideas that: (i) impairments certain cognitive processes are core feature schizophrenia; (ii) these reflect abnormalities specific cortical circuits; (iii) circuitry arise during childhood-adolescence. The implications findings development implementation safe, preemptive, disease-modifying interventions individuals at high risk clinical diagnosis schizophrenia considered.
