摘要: The War on Poverty is 50 years old. Over that time, federal and state governments have spent more than $19 trillion fighting poverty. But what we really accomplished?Although far from conclusive, the evidence suggests successfully reduced many of deprivations material poverty, especially in early Poverty. However, these efforts were successful among socioeconomically stable groups such as elderly low-income facing other social problems. Moreover, factors like passage Civil Rights Act, expansion economic opportunities to African Americans women, increased private charity, general growth may all played a role whatever poverty reduction occurred.However, even if achieved some initial success, programs it spawned long since reached point diminishing returns. In recent money programs, while realizing few, any, additional gains. More important, has failed make those living independent or increase mobility poor children. We made lives less uncomfortable, but truly lift people out poverty.The failures should serve an object lesson for policymakers today.
