摘要: Abstract Coatings with a nanocomposite structure have been identified as offering excellent wear resistant properties. This paper presents results on the CrCu (N) system, in which immiscibility of Cr (with low N concentration) and Cu offers potential predominantly metallic (and therefore tough) nanocomposite, composed small grains interdispersed (minority) matrix. A range compositions deposited using twin-target (Cr Cu) unbalanced magnetron sputtering system. The stoichiometry nanostructure characterised by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning (SEM), diffraction (XRD) energy loss (EELS). hardness elastic modulus determined nanoindentation. phase composition coatings is generally based 2 additional presence CrN depending elemental composition. was found to be incorporated phases. formation this metastable attributed relatively deposition temperature employed (∼200 °C). coating best mechanical properties, 0.07 0.48 exhibited 20 GPa.
