Injecting drug use and HIV infection in southwest China.

摘要: The authors investigated the prevalence of drug injection among users seroprevalence HIV and risk factors for infection injecting (IVDUs) extent heterosexual transmission IVDUs their spouses in southwest China. Findings are based upon a cross-sectional behavioral survey rural counties Ruili Longchuan Luxi Yunnan province 860 were recruited randomly selected communities along with random sample 62 wives HIV-infected IVDUs. 33% reported drugs. Of 282 who injected drugs 82% began IV use after 1988 64% at least once daily. All subjects shared needles but none cleaned equipment alcohol or bleach. 49% overall tested HIV-seropositive. seropositivity was independently correlated longer history daily frequent needle-sharing being younger living county. None HIV-positive used condoms during sex 10% HIV-positive. introduction into drug-using rapid increase heroin population appear to have triggered an explosive epidemic region. It is recommended that AIDS prevention efforts begin immediately focus discouraging shift from opium smoking unprotected partners.
