摘要: As technology pervades our everyday life and material culture, new possibilities problematics are raised for design. Attention in contemporary design discourse is shifting ‘beyond the object’, to qualities of processes experiences. The boxes screens typically ‘object’ interaction interface miniaturizing, even disappearing, as computation integrated into familiar materials ordinary objects. This opens – example, computer science converge with fashion architecture smart textiles intelligent environments it turns us back, ways, traditional disciplines practices. In this context, not only about spatial or physical form objects, but interactions that take place occupy time people’s relations through computational interactive argued thesis, a central, particular, concern must therefore be ‘temporal form’ such objects ‘form interaction’ they used over time. Furthermore, increasingly pervasive means temporality implicated more widespread changes conditions society. Challenging conventions ‘formalism’ ‘functionalism’, ‘good’ ‘total’ temporal concerns implications require ways thinking working materiality, users, effects design. Located at an intersection between emerging technologies traditions, approached Occupying Time diverse disciplinary frames scales consideration. If focus on proximate ‘Use’, here, discussion ‘Materials’ down reconsider basic composition form, ‘Change’ up examine large-scale long-term effects. To anchor these themes established practice, primary frame reference throughout. Accounts ‘event’, ‘vernacular’, ‘non-design’, concepts ‘becoming’, ‘in making’, ‘futurity’, treated architecture, extend theoretical practical basis approaching (interaction) discourse. Implications practice also emerge discussed. Basic materiality design, puts central ‘Material practice’. ‘Participatory practice’ moves beyond user involvement active participation ongoing formation.
