摘要: In this study, we used an in vitro Caco-2 cell monolayer model to evaluate aqueous extracts of commercial-source goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) and milk thistle (Silybum marianum) capsule formulations, their marker phytochemicals (berberine silibinin, respectively), as well dillapiol, vinblastine, the HIV protease inhibitor saquinavir for ability modulate CYP3A4 ABCB1 expression after short-term exposure (48 h). Both upregulation downregulation was observed with varying concentrations two natural health products (NHPs). highly responsive our system, showing a strong dose-dependent modulation by dillapiol (upregulation) flavonolignan silibinin (downregulation). largely unresponsive cellular appears be little value biomarker under experimental conditions. Therefore, gene can serve important assessment NHP-drug interactions.
