摘要: Using the subcutaneous chamber model of infection, we showed previously that a mixture four endodontic pathogens (EP: P. intermedia, F. nucleatum, S. intermedius and micra) are able to persist without clearance for up seven days, while non-pathogenic oral species, mitis, was substantially cleared in this time. Here have compared cytokine response inside chambers against these microorganisms. A majority cytokines tested (17/24) different patterns expression. Several had peak expression at 2 h after infection EP, none pattern mitis infections. Chemokines were uniformly present similar or higher levels with redundant CXCR2 ligands, several growth/survival factors EP Protease activity expressed by may be responsible lower some chemokines. T-cell associated general extremely low levels, did not differ between two The inflammatory markers IL-6, IL-1α IL1-β both infections early times, TNFα preferentially In infected chambers, reciprocal changes IL-6 observed later times suggesting switch response. Analysis individual species from mix suggests intermedia drives switch. Together results show surprising level divergence host pathogenic organisms infections, supports dominant effect polymicrobial
