Can the essential oil of Aloysia triphylla have anesthetic effect and improve the physiological parameters of the carnivorous freshwater catfish Lophiosilurus alexandri after transport

摘要: Abstract The Lophiosilurus alexandri is an important species to the Brazilian aquaculture. Moreover, studies about effects of essential oil (EO) Aloysia triphylla in fish are almost absent. Thus, aims this study were: 1) investigate anesthetic effect EO A . and, 2) if improves physiological parameters L after transport. experiment was divided three steps: anesthesia induction with (in μL/L): 25, 50, 100, 200, or 400; transport for 4 h separated into groups: control and two concentrations 12.5 25; 3) determination ventilatory frequency (VF) exposed at 25 μL/L. results showed that increasing concentration proportionally decreased time required sedation increased recovery time. After transport, some alterations water blood were observed independently treatment lower VF found 25 μL/L EO. Taken together these indicated metabolism. Finally, efficient , mainly 400 μL/L both used contributed improve parameters.
