摘要: 1. Previous experiments have demonstrated that eye movements, acting through the extraocular muscle (EOM) proprioceptive afferents, are necessary for development of orientation selectivity in cells kitten visual cortex. New were carried out to study effect plane movements on preferred acquired by cortical cells. 2. Darkreared (DR) kittens operated at 5–6 weeks age. In first series experiments, 4 6 EOMs removed bilaterally such a way both eyes could only move single plane, either vertical or horizontal. second same operation was performed one which also sutured shut and, other side, EOM deafferented intracranial section ophthalmic branch Vth nerve and left open. 3. 1–4 days after surgery given h experience 12 later prepared cell recording Area 17. 4. series: developed majority (60–65%) cells, most encoded horizontal orientations when had moved plane. These results show during early influences distribution with an orthogonal relation. Ocular dominance histograms “strabismic like” 5. 40–50% about half tuned direction movement occluded eye, as experiment I. The seeing, presumably would sent normal inputs centrally, corresponding displacements retina every since ocular motility not been disturbed. However, information its suppressed. As some still present connected, conclusion is observed influence acts afferents. showed: 1) powerful change favour seeing monocular experience; 2) larger hemisphere contralateral eye; 3) linkage between acquisition shift dominance. 6. Our suggest from close association afferent inputs. It suggested these two signals must occur precise temporal relationship.
