摘要: Malnutrition, skeletal muscle wasting, and changes in cardiac mass function have been described children infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This report analyzes relation of nutritional status to HIV-infected children. Thirty-six symptomatic HIV infection underwent simultaneous anthropometric echocardiographic evaluations before antiretroviral therapy or supplemental feedings. Nutritional measurements included weight, height, triceps skinfold thickness, arm circumference. Cardiac left ventricular mass, contractility, end-diastolic dimension, fractional shortening, blood pressure, heart rate. In a cross-sectional analysis, were significantly below age-adjusted standards for height (P = 0.0001), weight thickness 0.001), circumference 0.04). Left normalized body surface area was standard, but contractility normal. Correlation analyses found an inverse between z score (r -0.45, P 0.01), -0.47, 0.006), percentile -0.51, 0.003). An also rate 0.007) -0.46, 0.007). malnourished infection, paradoxical exists mass. The may suggest altered metabolic rates possible increased sympathetic tone.
