Meaning and Interpretation: Can Brandomian Scorekeepers be Gadamerian Hermeneuts?

摘要: In his book Tales of the Mighty Dead Brandom engages Gadamer’s hermeneutic conception interpretation in order to show that inferentialist approach understanding conceptual content can explain and underwrite main theses hermeneutics which he calls ‘the gadamerian platitudes’. assess whether this claim is sound, I analyze three types philosophical interpretations discusses: de re, dicto, traditione, argue they commit him an ‘ecumenical historicism’ directly at odds with approach. Although variety re denominates traditione comes indeed very close Gadamerian approach, conclude if Brandomian scorekeepers were adopt it, could become hermeneuts, but once did, would not be able go back their scorekeeping practices as described by Brandom.
