摘要: To prospectively evaluate outcome and toxicity after carbon ion radiotherapy (RT) in chordomas low-grade chondrosarcomas. Between September 1998 December 2001, 74 patients were treated for chondrosarcomas with carbon RT at the “Gesellschaft fur Schwerionenforschung” (GSI). Seven patients reirradiated reduced doses after conventional were excluded from the analysis, leaving 67 evaluable (44 23 chondrosarcomas) who received a full course of therapy. Tumor-conform application beams was realized by intensity-controlled raster scanning active energy variation. Three-dimensional treatment planning included intensity modulation biological plan optimization. A median dose 60 GyE applied to target volume within 20 consecutive days at dose 3.0 per fraction. Median follow-up 15 months (range 3–46 months). At 3 years, actuarial local control 100% and 87% chordomas, respectively. Partial tumor remission was observed 14/44 (31%) chordoma 4/23 (17%) chondrosarcoma patients. 3 years, overall survival was 89% chordomas, respectively. No severe side effects > CTC°III have been observed. These data demonstrate clinical efficiency safety of beam delivery with skull base chondrosarcomas. The observation of tumor regressions level may indicate that the effectiveness ions and chondrosarcomas is higher than initially estimated.
