摘要: Background Formation of apical compartments underlies the morphogenesis most epithelial organs during development. The extracellular matrix (ECM), particularly basement membrane (BM), plays an important role in orienting apico-basal polarity and thereby positioning lumens. Integrins have been recognized as essential mediators matrix-derived signals. importance β1-integrins polarization is well established but significance accompanying α-subunits not analyzed detail. Principal Findings Here we demonstrate that two distinct integrin-dependent pathways regulate formation lumens to ensure robust biogenesis under different microenvironmental conditions; 1) α2β1- α6β4-integrins were required establish a basal cue depends on Rac1-activity guides cell polarization. 2) α3β1-integrins implicated mitotic spindles cysts, process for Cdc42-driven hollowing. Significance Identification separate processes driven by particular integrin receptors clarifies functional hierarchies between integrins co-expressed cells provides valuable insight into complexity cell-ECM interactions guiding future studies addressing molecular basis development disease.
