In 8352 13–14-year old school pupils enrolled, report 7413 6782 present at follow-ups, respectively. group undertook three sessions using interactive computer programme. At end programme, recorded their responses it. Pupils classed as engaged they thought both useful interesting; all others disengaged. Random effects logistic regression related number times follow-up, adjusted absences 11 potential confounders. majority by intervention. For participants but engaging once, odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) relative controls 1.83 (1.41–2.39) 1.70 (1.38–2.11). those times, 0.79 (0.60–1.03) 0.96 (0.75–1.21). There no interaction baseline intention smoke, classified stage change, there borderline significant status, acting stronger among never-smokers. We conclude that is independently experimentation cigarettes. best explanation school, established smoking, generalises didactic school-based health programmes.
