摘要: Abstract Basaltic sediments generated from the breakdown of Columbia River Basalts (CRB) in Lawyer Creek and Lapwai watersheds northern Idaho demonstrate that sediment composition these fluvial systems is impacted by a number processes, including, chemical weathering, mixing, sorting, diagenesis. Chemical weathering documented compositional transformations occur parent material to detritus, specifically leaching labile cations (i.e., Ca, Mg, Na, K), an overall increase indices, generation secondary products clay minerals X-ray amorphous phases) sediments. While two mainly downcut through Basalt, incorporation derived local, glacially-derived soil and/or second cycle detritus interbedded sandstone units significantly modifies mineralogical signatures would normally be used fingerprint mafic provenance, highlighting potential difficulty for provenance reconstruction sedimentary rocks mixed sources.
