摘要: Biological membrane organization mediates numerous cellular functions and has also been connected with an immense number of human diseases. However, until recently, experimental methodologies have unable to directly visualize the nanoscale details biological membranes, particularly in intact living cells. Numerous models explaining proposed, but testing those required indirect methods; desire image proteins lipids cell membranes is a strong motivation for advancement technology. The development super-resolution microscopy provided powerful tools quantification at level individual lipids, many these are compatible Previously inaccessible questions now being addressed, field biology developing rapidly. This chapter discusses how led fundamental advances organization. We summarize history some organized give overview various techniques methods quantifying data. discuss application general, specific reference fields actin actin-binding proteins, virus infection, mitochondria, immune biology, phosphoinositide signaling. Finally, we present our hopes expectations future biology.
