摘要: The GIS software sector has developed rapidly over the last ten years. Open Source applications are gaining relevant market shares in academia, business, and public administration. In this paper, we illustrate history features of a key GIS, Geographical Resources Analysis Support System (GRASS). GRASS been under development for more than 28 years, strong ties into its review mechanisms led to integration well tested documented algorithms joint suite which used regularly environmental modelling. is community-based with developers distributed globally. Through use an online source code repository, mailing lists Wiki, users communicate order existing develop new methods. provide functionality overview 400 modules available latest stable release. This release runs natively on common operating systems (MS-Windows, GNU/Linux, Mac OSX), giving basic advanced casual expert users. second part, selected publications focus modelling wealth cases open free GIS.
