摘要: Metagenomics studies have accelerated the discovery of novel or divergent viruses honey bee. However, most these predominantly focused on RNA viruses, and many suffer from relatively low abundance viral nucleic acids in samples (i.e., compared to that host). Here, we explored virome Ethiopian bee, Apis mellifera simensis, using an unbiased metagenomic approach which next-generation sequencing step was preceded by enrichment protocol for particles. Our study revealed five well-known bee 25 atypical virus species, never been found A. before. The belong Iflaviridae, Dicistroviridae, Secoviridae, Partitiviridae, Parvoviridae, Potyviridae, taxonomically unclassified families. Fifteen were likely plant-specific, remaining ten presumed be insect-specific. filamentous (AmFV) one sampling site out 10. Two contained high read counts a similar Diatraea saccharales densovirus (DsDNV), is causes mortality sugarcane borer. AmFV DsDNV-like only DNA found. Three primarily infect Drosophila spp. also discovered: La Jolla (LJV), Kilifi (KiV), Thika virus. suggests phoretic varroa mites are involved transmission LJV KiV both replicate adult bees. We overwhelming dominance deformed wing type B variant, fits well with apparently harmless infestation Varroa destructor. It suggested bees developed tolerance against infections as result natural selection.
