摘要: Abstract Introduction COPD is a common preventable and treatable disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation that usually progressive associated with an enhanced chronic inflammatory response in the airways lung to noxious particles or gases. Exacerbations co-morbidities contribute overall severity individual patients. Oxidative stress represents one of key pathogenic mechanisms development COPD. MDA increased production interleukin (IL)-8 tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), both attract cells increase oxidant these cells. Attenuation oxidative would be expected result reduced pulmonary damage decrease local infections, contributing attenuation progression Aim study To compare effects high dose NAC versus regular on response, stress, functions clinical outcome patients acute exacerbations. Patients methods This randomized controlled included 45 exacerbation All received standard treatment were randomly assigned either; control group (A) no add therapy, low (B) 200 mg sachets TID, (C) 400 mg TID for 10 days. IL8, malondialdehyde (MDA), arterial blood gases spirometric parameters evaluated at baseline after treatment. Results IL8 levels significantly decreased (p  Conclusion High improves ameliorating thereby improving spirometry oxygenation.
