摘要: Wildlife incidents with aircraft cost the United States (U.S.) civil aviation industry (US$1.4 billion in estimated damages and loss of revenue from 1990 to 2009. Although terrestrial mammals represented only 2.3 % wildlife incidents, damage occurred 59 mammal incidents. We examined (excluding bats) at all airports Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Strike Database 2010 characterize these by airport type: Part-139 certified (certificated) general (GA). also calculated relative hazard scores for species most frequently involved found certifi- cated had more than twice as many GA airports. Incidents were frequent October (n = 215 1,764 total) certificated November 111 741 Most (63.2 %) 1,523) night but greatest incident rate dusk (177.3 incidents/hr). More 1,594) (38.6 (19.0 %). Artiodactyla (even-toed ungulates) incurred (92.4 costs 326; US$51.8 million) overall mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) was hazardous species. Overall, rela- tive score increased increasing log body mass. Frequency influenced seasonal abundance behavior. recommend officials evaluate risks pose based on information we provide consider prioritizing management strategies that emphasize reducing their occurrence property.
