Unraveling Trauma and Stress, Coping Resources, and Mental Well-Being among Older Adults in Prison: Empirical Evidence Linking Theory and Practice

摘要: Purpose of Study: A theoretical integration the life course perspective, cumulative advantage, disadvantage or inequality, and stress processing theories provide an important integrated lens to study relationship between accumulated interpersonal, social-structural, historical trauma stressful experiences on mental well-being in later life. Design Methods: This builds upon extant literature by examining mediating role coping resources experiences, post traumatic symptoms, among a sample 677 adults aged 50 older prison. Results: The majority (70%) reported experiencing one more during their span. Participants also average 11 occurrences multilevel events lingering subjective distress related these events. Results structural equation model revealed that internal external (e.g., cognitive, emotional, physical, spiritual, social) had significant inverse effect well-being.
