摘要: Background: Community-based outpatient experiences are a core component of the clinical years in medical school. Central to success this experience is recruitment and retention volunteer faculty from community. Prior studies have identified reasons why some preceptors their time however, there paucity data comparing those who do not. Methods: A survey was developed following review previous addressing perceptions community-based preceptors. non-parametric, Mann–Whitney U test used compare active (APs) inactive (IPs) all were analyzed SPSS 20.0. Results: There 28% response rate. Preceptors showed similar demographic characteristics, valued intrinsic over extrinsic benefits, appreciated Continuing Medical Education (CME)/Maintenance Certification (MOC) opportunities as highest reward. APs more likely also precept at M1/M2 level value recognition development ( p <0.05). IPs denoted most significant barrier and, comparison APs, rated financial compensation important Conclusions: Community motivated by benefits teaching. Efforts recruit should initially focus on promoting awareness teaching offering CME/MOC opportunities. Increasing pool may require compensation.
