摘要: Background Opportunities for HIV testing could be enhanced by offering self-testing (HIVST) in populations that fear stigma and discrimination when accessing conventional counselling testing. Field experience with HIVST was poorly reported French-speaking African countries. Objective To investigate the usability of Bangui, Central Republic. Methods The prototype self-test Exacto® Test (Biosynex, Strasbourg, France) used to assess 300 adults living according WHO technical recommendations. Simplified easy-to-read leaflet translated French Sango. Results Preliminary survey 3,484 adult volunteers including students, men who have sex female workers Bangui showed previous centres relatively infrequent acceptability elevated, although high heterogeneity observed between groups. notice Sango were chosen 242/300 (80.6%) 58/300 (19.4%), respectively. It correctly understood 273/300 (91.0%). majority (275/300; 91.6%) performed self-test; however, 71/300 (23.0%) asked oral assistance. Most participants (273/300; 91.0%) found performing very easy or easy, less than 1.0% (2/300) it difficult. Overall result interpreted 96.9% (3,782/3,900), reading/interpretion errors concerned positive (96/1,800;5.3%), invalid (17/600;2.8%) negative (5/1,500; 0.3%) self-test. Cohen's coefficient κwas 0.94. main obstacle educational level, interpretation difficulties educated people. Conclusions Our observations on profane Republic, demonstrate: (i) need adapt instruction public, pictograms as well vernacular language(s); (ii) frequent understanding misinterpretation test results; (iii) generally good despite these latter pitfalls. More research exploring best strategy (i.e. supervised versus unsupervised strategies) different high- low- risk resource-constrained settings remains needed.
