摘要: The marine red algae (Gelidiella acerosa and Sargassum wightii) possessing excellent antioxidant anticholinesterase activity were subjected to toxicity evaluation for a deeper understanding of other bioprotective properties seaweeds. Cytotoxic was done by trypan blue exclusion, MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assays using human PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) RBC (red lysis assay erythrocytes. Mutagenicity the seaweeds analyzed Ames salmonella mutagenicity test with histidine dependent mutant strains TA 98, TA100 1538. Genotoxic verified in comet assay. results suggest that benzene extract G. (BEGA) dichloromethane S. wightii (DMESW) did not show cytotoxic effect both Evaluation mutagenic suggests cause any effects absence presence S9 microsomal fraction all three Salmonella strains. Results genotoxic study showed treated seaweed extracts (1 mg/mL) exhibit less or no damage cells, thus proving non-genotoxic extract. Since these vitro non-clinical studies clearly demonstrate non-toxic nature seaweeds, they could be exploited further characterization, which would result development novel safe therapeutic entities.
