Prophylaxis with cefamandole nafate in elective orthopedic surgery.

摘要: A prospective, randomized, double-blind study was conducted to determine the efficacy of cefamandole nafate in reducing infections general orthopedic procedures. Of 743 patients initially entered into study, 715 (362 on cefamandole, 353 placebo) fulfilled requirements protocol. The infection rate 1.6% for cefamandole-treated group and 4.2% placebo group. In operations lasting longer than two hours, there were seven (p less 0.05). Staphylococcus aureus gram-negative bacilli common pathogens. Adverse side effects limited transient elevations liver enzymes.
