摘要: Abstract OBJECTIVE: Interest has been growing in using endoscopic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration the evaluation of mediastinal masses. The purpose this study was to review spectrum masses encountered ultrasound. METHODS: We reviewed all cases examined by ultrasound, with or without aspiration, prospectively gathered from our electronic database April 1995 July 2000. RESULTS: Of 1447 upper examinations, 33 (2.3%) involved a mass. Sixty-one percent patients were male average age 65 yr. Fifty-five had dysphagia, 48 experienced weight loss, only 12 totally asymptomatic. Seventy-three chest CT. Sixty-seven ultimately found be malignant, 21 solid benign lesions, four cystic. Only two lesions resected. Endoscopic used 76 patients. median survival malignant 87 days. CONCLUSIONS: Lesions deep mediastinum are often difficult conclusively diagnose nonendoscopic studies. can easily access region aid diagnosis management these lesions.
