摘要: The Vermont Waters Research Center (VWRC) sponsored Lake Champlain Hydrodynamic Monitoring Program began in June 1991 through a cooperative program between Middlebury College, Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory of Columbia University, and the Great Lakes Environmental Laboratory. This pilot was designed to lead into multi-year study internal mechanics lake circulation (such as variability stratification, forcing response functions, mixing, transport, basin-basin exchange), bottom morphological studies relating longterm flow patterns well sedimentation-rates. field incorporated three year-long taught-wire moorings along thalweg central from Valcour Island Thompson's Point addition several side-scan hydrographic surveys. Each mooring consisted thermistory chain spanning summer thermocline, 2 current meters (one above one below t-chain), 3 equally-spaced sediment traps. Subsequent funding NOAA expanded five within installation Passage Exchange Network (PEN) station at Grand Isle bridge. Presently, year half data has been obtained these programs. An overview results specifically themore » seiche its potential non-linear behavior, strong bimodal structure currents, inertial thermal history, temporal spatial variability, regions believed have enhanced exchange.« less
