摘要: The type 3 serotonin (5-HT3) receptor is the only ligand-gated ion channel for in vertebrates. Two 5-HT3 subunits have been cloned, subunit A (5-HT3A) and B (5-HT3B). We used situ hybridization histochemistry reverse transcriptase-PCR amplification to demonstrate that 5-HT3Asubunit transcripts are expressed central peripheral neurons. In contrast, 5-HT3B restricted Thus, prevalent form of 5-HT3receptor synthesized within CNS lacks 5-HT3Bsubunit. Because coexpression 5-HT3A produces heteromeric 5-HT3A/3Breceptors with properties differ from those 5-HT3Ahomomeric receptors, we investigated possible both at cellular level. found near 90% all expressing neurons coexpress superior cervical nodose ganglia (NG). addition, there a population expresses subunit. Therefore, capacity synthesize two different 5-HT3A+/3B− 5-HT3A+/3B+ receptors. also determined NG projecting nucleus tractus solitarium dorsal root superficial layers spinal cord express or 5-HT3A/3B subunits. presynaptic receptors containing might be present these target brain areas. compartmentalized structural composition may basis functional diversity this receptor. This raises possibility participating sympathetic, parasympathetic sensory functions functionally involved cognition emotional behavior.
