摘要: Abstract Background and study aims The aim of this was to review all episodes PEG insertion in patients with head neck cancer (HNC) at a specialist centre. Patients methods Using structured data extraction form, we abstracted patients’ demographic clinical information including the primary site tumour, TNM staging, whether tube inserted successfully, any complications resulting from duration place. Results We identified total 339 HNC who had received least one attempted insertion. mean age 49.5 ± 14.5 years 66% (n: 233/339) were males. 151/ (44.5%) tumour pharynx nasopharynx, 103/ (30.4%) oral cavity, 81/ (23.9%) post-cricoid region 4 (1.1%) laryngeal carcinoma. Histopathologically, most tumours (75.8%) squamous cell carcinoma presenting T4 (52.6%), N0 (38.3%) M0 (91.7%) stage. successfully 303/339 (89.4%) patients. There 36 failures; 24 (66.6%) postcricoid tumours, 8 (22.3%) pharynx/nasopharynx (11.1%) cavity tumours. Of 81 57/ (70.3%) Age, gender or T stage not found be statistically significant predictors failure. only factor presence that increased risk failure 12 times (95% confidence interval: 3.4 42.3). Conclusion should used as first line feeding option type cancers, however, attending clinicians have foresight higher rates tumour.
