摘要: Scope Steryl ferulates (SFs) belong to the bioactive lipids contributing health promoting effects of whole grains. However, their intestinal absorption remains unclear. We investigated permeation individual SFs using an in vitro barrier model. Methods and results An Caco-2 cell monolayer, mimicking barrier, was used evaluate eight from different sources. A method based on ultra-performance LC with high-resolution mass spectrometric detection developed for quantification. Although only a negligible amount (< 0.5%) permeated across some differences permeability coefficients were observed between SFs. Permeation mechanism mainly passive diffusion. Conclusion This work indicates that gut is very low. Therefore, cholesterol lowering antioxidant activity-related benefits most likely occur independently absorption.
