Parental Involvement in the Residential Care of Persons with Intellectual Disability: The Impact of Parents' and Residents' Characteristics and the Process of Relocation

摘要: Background  This study addresses three goals: (i) to describe the extent of parental involvement in residential care (post-placement); (ii) relocation process (pre-placement); and (iii) examine impact residents' characteristics, parents' characteristics pre-placement on post-placement involvement. Methods  Ninety-seven parents residents living facilities for people with intellectual disability completed Parental Involvement Residential Care Questionnaire that was constructed this study. Results  Post-placement expressed by high level visiting residence, close direct contact resident staff, low participation decision making concerning their son/daughter operation residence. Most were not actively involved process, did participate selecting current residence visit prior move. However, majority participated a preparation program whose candidates out-of-home placement. Participants sons/daughters lived fewer years or son's/daughter's less severe reported higher involvement. These had children at home longer pre-relocation program.
