摘要: Surface plasmons are electromagnetic waves that propagate along the interface between a metal and dielectric. can be excited by attenuated total internal reflection of p-polarised light at thin layer separating prism from lower refractive index The coupling to plasmon is very sensitive dielectric this basis surface resonance (SPR) sensors. SPR sensors, using coated with sensitising which an analyte interest binds, have found significant applications in biosensing. amplitude phase both change rapidly so polarisation techniques therefore used detect small variations index. This thesis presents two instruments techniques. A imaging instrument constructed. Linearly polarised reflected surface, incident on analyser transmitted detected camera. input gives minimum transmission through optical system measured for each pixel 128 × 48 image. theoretical analysis effect various experimental conditions accuracy measurements made presented. Measurements salt solutions presented demonstrate changes over 0.01 RIU range near n = 1.33. noise 2× 10−6, similar expected analysis. gold patterned fluoropolymer spatially varying imaged. novel technique differential detects difference areas was developed. shows it should able indices areas. differences while being insensitive common surface.
