摘要: AIM To present the currently available evidence on cardiovascular benefits and risks associated with phyto-oestrogens. DATA-SYNTHESIS: Medline search from 1966-1999 updated cross-check of references papers keywords such as phyto-oestrogens, isoflavones, lignans, genistein, daidzein, enterolactone, enterodiol, disease, disease risk factors. CONCLUSIONS Phyto-oestrogens are plant chemicals divided into three main classes: coumestans, lignans that display oestrogen-like activity due to their ability bind oestrogen receptor. They found in grains, beans, green vegetables, fruits, nuts, grasses. Isoflavones primarily soybeans soy foods. For epidemiological studies relation between phyto-oestrogen intake parameters, is estimated several measures, biomarkers (concentrations urine or blood) dietary questionnaires, though optimal method not yet clear. considered act selective receptor modulators (SERM), exerting both agonist antagonist action. Supplementation isolated protein containing isoflavones genistein daidzein reduces serum total LDL-cholesterol triglycerides animals humans. Vascular reactivity might be improved by supplementation red clover. Studies atherosclerosis indicate a potential for reduction. Evidence humans still scanty. The little we know effects regular comes which phyto-oestrogens were added usual diet. Most have been conducted whereas importance has determined, they could more important sources than Western populations. Research focused clinically manifest endpoints urgently needed.
