Treatment of allergic and vasomotor rhinitis by the local application of silver nitrate.

摘要: A new, simple and effective local treatment of allergic vasomotor rhinitis is presented. Using 15 per cent silver nitrate, bilateral chemical cautery the anterior part nasal septum inferior turbinates has been carried out at weekly intervals on 1 to 5 occasions, in 41 cases. No distinction was made between rhinitis. 92.6 cases belonged age group 11 50 years. There a slight predominance female over male patients this study. Only those were selected who had sneezing as presenting symptom, while 17 these also suffered from asthma. The eosinophil count blood below 73.2 cases, above 10 9.8 Eosinophils present secretions 66.6 patients. Intestinal parasites detected stools 19.5 significant quantity methaemoglobin any patient. Silver nitrate applied after topical anaesthesia with 4 lignocaine solution. majority 2 applications. 68.3 good relief, particularly watering nose. If treated only single application are excluded series, 79.4 reported relief. Significantly, 7 suffering well asthma, 57.1 freedom Among 3 no relief earlier intranasal hydrocortisone injections, nitrate. One patient developed anosmia some experienced transient rhinorrhoea Long-term results awaited it suggested that further studies necessary regarding number applications, interval strength solution, possible use other or physical agents for mode treatment.
