摘要: Background and purpose: Infection is a frequent complication after an acute stroke may affect outcome. We identified predictors of early infection, type their relation to initial disability, the eventual outcome during inpatient period. Methods: This was study patients with ischaemic admitted Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital from June 2000 January 2001. A single observer, using pre-defined diagnostic criteria recorded information on demography, type, time onset, frequency infections that occurred Results: One hundred sixty three were enrolled in study. Early infection observed 26 (16%) patients. The pneumonia (12.3%), urinary tract (3.7%). Using multivariate analysis, independent Barthel index (BI) less than 5 (OR 4.23; 95%CI 1.70 5.11), middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory infarcts 4.91; 1.57 8.82), Glasgow coma score (GCS) 9 5.12; 2.98 15.52). presence increased mortality 14.83; 4.31 51.07).
