摘要: Five hundred patients with established, symptomatic limb joint OA have been recruited into an on-going prospective study of the natural history condition. Four and fifteen (mean age 65.6 years, female to male ratio 2.05:1) were available for a full clinical radiographic review 3 years after entry follow-up interval 37.6 months, range 31-41). The majority reported overall worsening their condition, although pain severity did not change. There was increase in disability (Steinbrocker) use walking aids group but 57 (13.7%) improved, 38 whom had undergone surgery. strong correlation between changes different outcome measures, none baseline variables predicted change over exception association subsequent One ninety-three 415 knee disease at entry. forty-five these radiographs data from both time points. Some seen 85 276 evaluable tibiofemoral joints (30.1%), only 10 patellofemoral joints. space, osteophyte subchondral bone scelerosis. However, there no changes. It is concluded that may be good surrogate established OA. This has implications design long-term studies possible structure modifying agents
