摘要: A new fracture toughness test, the edge crack torsion method, has been developed for characterizing mode III delamination behavior of composites. The test is based on a laminate specimen subjected to propagate an in its midplane. growth deduced be from mechanics principles. torsional and corresponding parameter GIIIC have analyzed basis plate theory. Edge tests were performed measure several carbon fiber/epoxy composite systems. Laminate layups optimized yield linear elastic specimens. specimens also sufficiently compliant allow readily obtained by using compliance calibration method. deformation characteristics found follow description. SEM observations showed surface morphology varying with resin microstructures and, case untoughened matrix, consistent what was reported literature other proposed tests.
