Women's health and labour force status: An enquiry using a multi-point measure of labour force participation

摘要: Previous research indicates that working women are healthier than housewives, the unemployed less healthy those currently employed, and transitions into out of paid work may be particularly associated with poor health. Women respondents in 1979 U.S. National Health Interview Survey were divided five categories: long term employee, newly unemployed, recently non-employed housewife. The categories compared on six measures self-reported health illness behaviour, controlling for age, SES, marital status, age youngest child. As expected employees healthiest, followed by employed; housewives not distinguishable terms their health; least healthy. This pattern was found both total sample, sub sample married mothers. dynamic relationship between employment status health, is discussed.
