Psychosocial vulnerability and demographic characteristics in extreme flash floods: The case of Mandra 2017 flood in Greece

摘要: Abstract Floods are among the most frequent phenomena leading to disastrous, long term social and economic impacts globally. On November 15, 2017, 24 people were killed hundreds left homeless in vicinities of towns Mandra Nea Peramos Attica region, Greece, as a result catastrophic flash flood triggered by extreme rainfall. The impact such events has been focus studies for years consistently indicating adverse effects ranging from short term, on post-disaster physical psychological health. This paper explores initial floods communities terms health, means self-report questionnaire. Findings investigated relation demographic variables vulnerability predictors. Self-reports differed prior after flood, with negative changes both domains. Results indicated significant differences physiological health gender, age, marital occupational status. According Spearman's correlation coefficient, showed moderately positive correlations independent variables. indicate need align prevention, aid intervention strategies recovery phase address issues public awareness, information provision post disaster coping strategies.
