Asthma prescribing practices of government and private doctors in Malaysia--a nationwide questionnaire survey.

摘要: A self-answered, anonymously completed questionnaire survey was performed between June 2002 and May 2003 where doctors from government private sectors in Malaysia were invited to participate by post or during medical meetings. One hundred sixteen 110 provided satisfacto-rily questionnaires (effective respondent rate: 30.1%). The most preferred medications for ‘first-line’, ‘sec-ond-line’ ‘third-line’ treatment doctors: inhaled short-acting β 2-agonist (SABA) (98%), in-haled corticosteroids (CS) (75%), leukotriene antagonist (52%); oral SABA (81%), CS (68%), (58%). first choice inhaler device metered dose inhalers, with cost personal preferences (for doctors), technical ability doctors) as the key considerations when deciding on of device. This benchmark data asthma pre-scribing practices a healthcare delivery system fully dichotomized into sector, provides evidence practice differences affected nature system, might have implications systems other countries that share similarities Malaysia.
