摘要: This chapter summarizes the evidence that defined compartments of hair follicle (HF) and nail epithelium maintain an area relative immune privilege (IP). HF IP is chiefly characterized by absent or very low level expression major histocompatibility complex class Ia antigens, complemented a number factors, such as local production potent immunosuppressive agents, dysfunction professional antigen-presenting cells inhibition natural killer cell activities. In bulb, seen only in anagen stage cycling, while apparatus continuously maintains site its proximal matrix, since does not cycle. Possibly, (non-cycling) bulge human scalp HFs also enjoys some relative, stably maintained IP, even though it pronounced bulb. A collapse likely plays key role pathogenesis one most common organ-specific autoimmune diseases, alopecia areata. Therefore, therapeutic restoration promises to be particularly effective future strategy for treatment
