摘要: In recent years, significant improvements have been made in the management of neutropenia and thrombocytopenia other potentially life-threatening complications ablative chemotherapy. While these are particular concern to physicians, patients receiving therapy for bone marrow or blood stem cell transplants often troubled by side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea mouth sores. The purpose study was gain a better understanding patients' experiences while undergoing transplant. same professional medical interviewer conducted in-depth interviews with 38 subjects (10 men, 28 women; mean age 46.9 years) who had received and/or peripheral transplants. Participants were consecutively identified through physician patient referrals, cancer BMT support groups, newspaper advertisements. Twenty-eight (74%) autologous 10 (26%) allogeneic reported sores, nausea diarrhea, fatigue most troubling their Mouth sores selected single debilitating effect (42%), followed vomiting (13%). Many mentioned that it difficult impossible eat (n = 23), swallow 21), drink 17), talk 8). Twenty pain mouth, throat, esophagus. Two-thirds (66%) opioid analgesics, frequently morphine, relieve oral pain. For many, opioids caused incapacitating effects, including hallucinations, feeling loss control decrease mental acuity. Patients chemotherapy identify mucositis cause suffering morbidity. Effective interventions alleviate this complication urgently needed.
