摘要: SUMMARY The evidence for vegetational change during the millennia between first human settlement and c 3000 be is reviewed. Aspects considered include extent to which hunter-gatherer activities influenced broad- as opposed small-scale changes in palaeofloras of Scotland; range interpretatio ns may placed upon presence charcoal relation intentional use fire; potential defects floristic inference illustrated by hazel bog-myrtle pollen; spatial, ecological chronological components transition agriculture. It stressed throughout that, relative other possible causal factors, much available environmental regarding man's role landscape before widespread adoption crop husbandry uncertain.
