摘要: The impact of bolus ingestion and level consciousness on swallowing apnea duration (SAD) in healthy term infants has not been adequately explored despite the likely contribution to upper airway protection against aspiration. SAD during wakefulness, sleep, feeding (breast or bottle) 10 was measured times from birth 1 year age. Nineteen thousand four hundred two swallows were analyzed. Irrespective age, significantly shorter than non-nutritive (during wakefulness sleep). did change within first life any three conditions there no relative durations nutritive, wake sleep with absence an age effect implies that neural mechanisms controlling are fundamentally brainstem-mediated largely hard-wired at neonates.
