摘要: Bindin, a protein component of the acrosomal vesicle sea urchin sperm, has been isolated from Arbacia punctulata and strongylocentrous purpuratus. Using this bindin, we have devised quantitative assay for bindin-mediated egg agglutination compared bindin eggs A. puntulata S. Bindin- mediated is species –specific in both species, although measurable degree heterotypic interaction observed. Homotypic bindin-egg interactions differ significantly extent size resulting aggregates. We also provide direct evidence that particles agglutinate by adhering to surfaces adjacent eggs. Although preparation displays same functional properties consists one major polypeptide apparent molecular weight as purpuratus its morphology very different. Unlike spherical aggregates observed with A exists lamellar vesicles binds significant amounts phospholipids Triton X-100, suggesting it may be tightly associated membrane. Having defined number basic parameters agglutination, examined effect saccharides glycopeptides on agglutination. Carbohydrate-containing components derived cell surface proteolysis were found inhibit at low concentrations, but inhibition not specific.
