摘要: Objectives: Prescribing medications is an important challenge in the transition to junior doctor practice. We explored antimicrobial prescribing experiences of foundation year (FY) doctors two UK hospitals. The study answers three research questions: (i) What types do FY have?; (ii) How they make sense their experiences?; and (iii) are educational needs regarding prescribing? Complementary analytical approaches answer questions, including framework analysis in-depth narrative analysis, were employed. Results: made complicated decisions. context which these decisions took place also challenging, with marked variability practice between wards within same hospital, conflicting advice given by senior staff a dearth supervision feedback. In-depth illustrated complex interplay what trainees say how narrate experiences. Three data-derived strategies identified presented Expert Reference Group participants for feedback ideas development. Conclusions: approach provided window into doctors’ that wider than themselves. described tasks being undertaken challenging environments, where workplace cultures often failed promote learning hierarchy sometimes worked against rational prescribing. Some practical solutions challenges offered.
