摘要: For research on tendon injury, many different animal models are utilized; however, the extent to which these species simulate clinical condition and disease pathophysiology has not yet been critically evaluated. Considering importance of inflammation in disease, this study compared cellular molecular features tenocytes humans four common model (mouse, rat, sheep, horse). While mouse rat most closely equalled human low proliferation capacity negligible effect proliferation, wound closure speed was best approximated by rats horses. The overall gene expression similar mice under healthy, horses transient sheep constant inflammatory conditions. Humans were matched their marker collagen expression, extracellular matrix remodelling genes, mediators. As no single perfectly replicates sufficiently emulates tenocytes, fit-for-purpose selection for each specific question combination data from multiple will be essential optimize translational predictive validity.
