摘要: Abstract Mesophyll cells have been prepared from rye-grass leaves by a procedure similar to that used Edwards and Black 1 for crab-grass. Successive filtrations through nylon cloth of 300-, 80-, 45-, 15-μm mesh yielded suspension consisting chiefly single cells, some broken. Passage French pressure cell brought the total breakage near 100%. Microscopic examination walls showed very little contents remained. The were thin (0.1–0.2 μm) had numerous pit fields; torn surfaces revealed randomly oriented, fibrillar structure. Determinations polysaccharide content, protein, phenolic esters, lignin, ash accounted ∼85% dry matter. proportion glucose in polysaccharides these was leaf cell-wall fraction as whole, but proportions arabinose, galactose, uronic acid higher, xylose lower. acetyl content 1.0–1.2%. readily digested fungal culture filtrates, snail digestive juice, immersion sheep rumen bags. These findings are discussed relation digestion forage cell-walls ruminants.
