摘要: We examined the interaction between intertroop transfer and male dominance ranks in a wild population of Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata yakui) Yakushima using data collected over 15 years. Intertroop tended to maintain linear, stable, age-graded rank order among nonnatal males irrespective variation troop size or composition. All that joined at top were prime adults. Among joining lower ranks, entry most subordinate position hierarchy was common. Males join troops which all other resident same age older. Adult with few no males. Young many males, relatively large proportion young ones. responsible for changes The common cause rising emigration death higher-ranking male. fell frequently as result new hierarchy. Rank reversals rare. cumulative effects transfers produce sociodemographic within time diversity local population. A key feature is larger have significantly greater than smaller troops. This also creates potential severity competition provides range options transferring
