摘要: This article discusses a previously unrecognized avenue for bioterrorism and biocrime. It is suggested that new gene editing technologies may have the potential to create plants are genetically modified in harmful ways, either terms of their effect on plant itself or harming those who would consume foods produced by plant. While several risk scenarios involving GMOs-such as antibiotic resistant pathogens, synthetic biology, mixing non-GMO seeds with GMO seeds-have been recognized, vulnerability rooted different paradigm-that clandestinely manipulating GMOs damage. The ability actively inflict diseases pose serious health hazards both humans animals, detrimental consequences economy, directly threaten food supply. As this first study kind, full scope impact suck attacks-especially intended misuse such gene-drives-merits further investigation. Herein, plausibility some risks will be analyzed by, (1) Highlighting ownership origination issues (esp. event-specific GM-plants) factors; (2) Investigating unique role GMOs, why-and how-certified could become venue attacks; (3) Analyzing possible dual-use potentials modern research oriented toward advancement breeding crop improvement. identification analysis genetic manipulations utilize (covertly modified) (GMOs non-GMOs) an attack vector show these concerns need taken seriously, raising prospect not only direct harm, but more likely effects generating public concern, reputational harm agricultural biotechnology companies, law-suits, increased import bans certain derived products.
